Magic Chair Author Workshop 2018

Fulbridge had a visit from a real author today.

Ben has written many books, including of The Magic Chair, Adventures Around The World, Travel Through Time, The Search For Santa and a few books for grown ups too.

Did you know that this video features some of our Fulbridge children!

You can listen to Ben reading one of his stories and answering questions from our Reception children:

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 listened to Ben reading one of his stories. They then had the opportunity to ask him questions.

A child asked Ben who inspired him to start writing. He said that it was when he was 5 years old, his teacher asked the class to write a story. This excited him and he knew then, that he loved writing stories.  He said that some of his stories were not very good but he kept on writing and writing because he loved it so much.

One child asked if he knew any famous people. Sadly, he does not but he hopes to become famous one day and then his friends can say that they know someone famous.

Miss Wilson asked Ben if he had any tips and advice that he could give her class because they love writing stories. Ben said that it is always good to have a beginning, middle and an end, to have a main character, something needs to happen, for example, the character needs or is finding something, use your senses to add description, and have fun writing.  He also said that writing can always be rewritten.....any story can be improved or changed, you have the power to make that happen.

Another child asked if you had to be old to be an author.  Ben explained to the children that this was not the case, as you can start writing at any age, it just gets a bit trickier when you start to publish your work.

A Year 2 child asked how the books were printed? Ben said that he has an illustrator, called Ali, who draws all the pictures on her computer and then a big printer prints all the books and cuts it to size.

What job would you do if you weren't an author? After some thinking, Ben said that he would probably be something exciting, like and astronaut.

Thank you Ben for visiting us here at Fulbridge.

The children have been left feeling excited about writing their own stories and reading lots of books.
